Traveling by Air
Clients arriving by air typically fly to the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and transfer to Pacific Coastal Airlines with a final destination of Port Hardy (YZT).
Once clients have arrived in Port Hardy there are several options for getting to Winter Harbour:
-
Rental Car companies located at the Port Hardy Airport Budget Rent a Car Canada or National Car Rental. The drive to Winter Harbour is about two hours from the airport along a gravel logging road. Contact us to discuss driving details.
-
Float plane companies that will also transport your group to Winter Harbour Wilderness Seaplanes or Air Cab.
-
If you’re looking for a more relaxed and worry-free transport from the Port Hardy airport ask us about our guest pick-up and drop-off service.
Traveling by Car
Clients arriving from the USA by car will either cross the border at the Peace Arch Border Crossing and make there way to the BC Ferries terminal in Tsawwassen British Columbia. Ferries to Duke Point Nanaimo leave at scheduled intervals but we recommend using the reservation system on the BC Ferries website to avoid long waits. There are also options to travel on the Washington State Ferry service to Victoria.
Once on the island, the drive to Port Hardy along Highway 19 will take you through Campbell River, Woss, and Port McNeil. The turn-off to Holdberg / Winter Harbour is well marked and will take you about 2 hours on a gravel logging road to reach Winter Harbour.
